Made For The Top, Do Not Die At The Bottom
1: It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole
kingdom;
2: And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3: Then this Daniel was preferred ab ove the presidents and princes, because an
excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. DANIEL 6:1-3.
Daniel was one of the Hebrew exiles in a foreign land. Some years back the Babylonians had
invaded the tiny kingdom of Judah and deported many people into exile. Think of the horror and pain of being carried away forcefully from your homeland. There is no guarantee that you will ever see
your homeland again. The exile was a time of pain and pressure for the people. They had lost their homeland. They had lost their temple. They had lost most of
the things that made for meaning and identity. While in exile the Jews cried: "By the rivers of Babylon we cried and wept when our captors asked us to sing to
them one of Zion's song. But we asked: How could we sing the song of the Lord in a strange land."
In exile you are treated as a second class citizen. In exile the job opportunities
are very few. In exile you live under oppression. Exile is a season of tears. Exile is a time of sickness. In exile the sources of help were very few. In exile you are
nobody. In exile you are a slave. In exile you are deprived of your rights. To be in exile is to live in fustration. To be in exile is to live in fear. To be in exile is to be
at the mercy of your oppressor. Your sufferings in exile may never come to an end unless you die. To be in exile is to live in poverty. Exile is stressful. Exile is
painful. Exile is discouraging. Exile is limitation. Exile is hindrance. In exile you may not reach your best and possibilities in life. In exile you are destined for failure.
This was the kind of situation Daniel and many other Hebrew people lived in. It is difficult to breakthrough in exile. It is difficult to succeed in exile. It is difficult to
rise to the top in exile. Yet there is no situation that cannot change in this life. No condition that is permanent. Your condition cannot deprive you of your position. I
came to encourage you that there is hope for you. All hope is not lost. The end is in sight. The shore is nearby. God will not allow you to drown in the sea. You will
see the sunlight again. Your celebration is coming. The day of your graduation will come. Your last step will not be your matriculation.
I have a story of favor to tell you. But it was not only a story of favor. Daniel also used his God-given abilties to distinguish himself. All the odds were against him.
Yet he rose to excellence and a supervisory position in a strange land. You will not die yet. Your children will not die yet. You will eat from the fruits of your
children. You will see your promotion next year. Your hidden papers of promotion will be discovered. Do not expire yet, but continue to aspire. Take the next step
you will reach the top. God will reveal hidden secrets to you. You will not miss the road. I am waiting to be invited to celebrate with you. I will see you again.
